Half centuries by Chehan Subasinghe and Nikil Jayaweera and an impressive 5-wicket haul by left-arm spinner Yuri Koththigoda paved the way for Richmond College to secure a comfortable 57-run victory over traditional rivals Mahinda College in their 36th Lovers’ Quarrel limited-overs match played at the Galle Stadium.

Subasinghe and Jayaweera combined for an opening partnership of 100 runs. Subasinghe scored 54 runs and Jayaweera made 50 as they put on a 100-run stand for the opening wicket, guiding Richmond to a total of 238 for 9.

In their chase, Mahinda were progressing steadily and were well-placed at 153 for 5 in the 39th over. However, the introduction of left-arm spinner Koththigoda, led to them losing their last five wickets for just 28 runs, before being bowled out for 181 runs.

Koththigoda finished with excellent figures of 5 for 14 in only 2.1 overs. This victory marked Richmond’s repeat of last year’s success and their 22nd win in the series compared to Mahinda’s 10 wins.
