Manukalpa scripts Dharmaraja’s thrilling win

Right-arm spinner Dakshitha Manukalpa spun Dharmaraja College to a thrilling innings and 69-run win over their traditional rivals Kingswood College in their 117th Battle of the Maroons big match concluded at the Pallekele Stadium yesterday.
Manukalpa, who went wicketless in the first innings, spun a web around the Kingswood batters, claiming a magnificent of 8 for 30 to bowl their rivals out for 78 runs.
Dharmaraja batting first declared on formidable 325 for 2 with Onajith de Silva (103 not out), Isuru Pannala (105) and Pulindu Perera (92) contributing with the bat. Onijith shared 152 runs for the opening wicket with Pulindu and a further 152 runs for the second with Isuru as they took the Kingswoodian bowlers to the sword, accumulating their runs off 60 overs.
With an imposing total under them, Dharmaraja bowlers, led by Sesath Thilakaratne (4-34), dismantled the Kingswoodian batting unit to bowl them out for 178 runs. Dharmaraja, with a healthy first innings lead of 147 runs, enforced the follow on where the Kingswoodians succumbed to Manukalpa’s brilliance for just 78 runs, lasting only 30.2 overs.
This victory marked Dharmaraja’s first win since 2015 and their 36th win in the series compared to Kingswood’s 19.
