Trinity College secured a convincing 100-run victory over long-standing rivals St. Anthony’s College in their 42nd Battle of the Blues limited-overs match held at St. Anthony’s ground in Katugastota yesterday.

The victory was set up by Dimantha Mahavithana and Supun Waduge who scored half-centuries. Mahavithana formed crucial partnerships, first a 51-run opening stand with Viduka Dhammage, and then a 72-run partnership with Waduge. These partnerships helped Trinity post a modest total of 228 for 9.

The spin duo of Dinuka Tennekoon and Tharana Wimaladharma wreaked havoc on the Antonians’ top order, reducing them to 44 for 6 in the 13th over. Despite a brief recovery, the Antonians were bowled out for 128 runs, thanks to the spin pair and Malith Ratnayake. This victory marked Trinity’s 20th win in the series, surpassing 17 wins by St. Anthony’s.
