Teacher shortage for marking A/L Com Math and Physics papers

View(s):

The marking of 2022 GCE Advanced Level Examination answer scripts is set to begin next week after the decision by the Federation of University Teachers’ Associations (FUTA) to end its trade union action.

Nevertheless, the marking of answer scripts in at least 11 subjects continues to pose a problem as not enough teachers have applied for those subjects, a senior official from the Examinations Department revealed.

Combined Mathematics and Physics are among the subjects where there is a shortage of teachers for marking, the source added.

The Examinations Department recently called for applications once again to mark A/L answer scripts, but even that did not elicit an adequate response for these particular subjects. As such, the Department is preparing to call for applications in these subjects once again, according to the official.

Despite these issues, the Examinations Department is confident that the marking of A/L answer scripts will be completed by the end of July or the beginning of August.

The Department will also soon have to call for applications to mark answer scripts of the 2022 GCE Ordinary Level Examination, which is scheduled to be held from May 29 to June 8. Marking of answer scripts of this examination is unlikely to commence until paper marking of the A/L examination comes to an end, the official conceded.
