MSU & MSI Students New Year Calibrations – Surya Udawa 2023

One of the most important and anticipated cultural events on the Sri Lankan calendar is the Sinhala and Tamil New Year. This time Sri Lankans got the opportunity to unite, offer gratitude, and celebrate as one nation.

Management and Science University (MSU) has successfully conducted an event under the theme of “Surya Udawa 2023’ on 25th April 2023, to celebrate Sinhala, Tamil New Year and Eid Festival. With aimed to enhance the students’ knowledge on cultural diversity and practice the values of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebrated in Sri Lanka annually. Moreover, the event was conducted by focusing more attention on achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG) of Quality Education (SDG 4), Reduce Inequality (SDG 10), Partnerships for The Goals (SDG 17), Peace and justice strong institutions (SDG 16) and Responsible consumption and production (SDG 12).

Further, the event started at 8 a.m. at the MSU Colombo Learning Centre main auditorium and was followed with speeches on different cultural values in Sri Lanka. Indoor and outdoor games with cultural values where students were able to understand the values of Sri Lankan multiculturalism. Further, for all these gammes and activities, students from different religious backgrounds have participated, and it was a main accomplishment through this event to enhance the student’s cultural integrity within the university premises. Throughout this event, students have taken special measures to protect the environment by minimising the usage of polythene, plastic, and other non-degradable materials.

This event was a huge success due to the massive commitment of students, academic, and non-academic staff members of MSI, led by The President and Vice Chancellor of MSU, we would like to share our gratitude for all the student contributions, which is the main reason behind the success of this event.
