The Education Ministry has sought the advice of the Attorney General’s Department on how to recruit teachers to fill 26,000 vacancies.

AG Department advice has been sought as some sections have challenged the decision of the Education Ministry to set a maximum age limit of 35 years for candidates.

In addition, the services of the Public Services Commission also has been sought.

Education Minister Susil Premajayantha said that if they are unable to go ahead with the recruitment procedure, some schools face the risk of closing down due to a lack of teachers. He added that some A/L classes would have to be closed if the issue is not resolved.
