Soldiers deliver double delight at 84th 2-Mile Sea Swim

B.D. Shehan, 24, of Sri Lanka Army (SLA) in the Open category and his team in the Men’s Team category, came out as winners of the second and final day in the 84th Annual 2-Mile Sea Swim, held in the Mt. Lavinia waters last morning.

Shehan clocked 41:33.00 minutes and his team scored 86 points comfortably ahead of second placed St. Joseph’s College, settling with 67 points. It was an identical finish in the Open category, where Josephian Shevon Silva clocked 41:54.00 minutes to end up in second place.

On Friday, the opening day Rainbow’s Swimming Club’s Galina Basnayake clocked 46:16.00 minutes in the Women’s Open category.

The Girls Under-15 Open category was won by Leeds International Schools’ Ginuki Tharulya, who clocked 49:03.00 minutes to complete the course. St. Joseph’s Lineth Jayasinghe won the Boys’ Under-15 Open title, finishing the swim in 46:02.00 minutes.

Prajapathi Gothami Girls’ College accumulated 42 points in the Women’s Team category. Mahamaya Girls College Kandy, with 33 points, were adjudged winners in the Under-15 Open category, while the Boys’ category went to St. Joseph’s, with a tally of 67 points.
