With a tally of 175 points and 14 overall age group titles, Lyceum International Schools dominated the International Schools Athletic Championship (ISAC) 2023, held last weekend at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo. This was the 13th consecutive year that Lyceum International Schools Network claimed the overall championship, as Gateway College gave a close fight only to finish behind them.

Dinara Dela Bandara of Gateway College, Colombo won the R.I.T. Alles Challenge Trophy awarded for the best performer of the meet, for her brilliant timing of 24.87 seconds in the Under-20 Girls’ 200m. She also claimed the Munchee and Lyceum Campus Challenge trophies presented for best female athlete.

The Munchee and Lyceum Campus Challenge Trophy for the best male athlete was won by Razwin Carrim of Lyceum Panadura, who cleared a distance of 6.91 metres in the Under-20 Boy’s long jump event.

Lyceum International School, Wattala conquered ISAC 2023 with a tally of 99 medals, made up of 44 gold, 35 silver and 20 bronze medals. Lyceum International School, Nugegoda, won 35 medals, which include six gold, 16 silver and 13 bronze medals, while Lyceum International School, Panadura, won 27 medals, with nine gold, 10 silver medals and eight bronze.

Athletes of Lyceum International School, Ratnapura showed their potential by claiming a total of 14 medals, which included a gold, five silver and eight bronze medals. However, the second-best performers of ISAC were from Gateway College, Colombo, who acquired 48 medals, which included 22 gold, 12 silver and 14 bronze medals. This year’s challenging two-day meet had special significance for Lyceum International Schools, as this was Lyceum’s 10th time hosting the event.

Being the first ISAC event held since the pandemic, it was a crucial moment for both TISSL (The International Schools of Sri Lanka) and this year’s host, Lyceum International Schools. The ISAC, which commenced in 2001, was the brainchild of the founder of Gateway College, the late R.I.T. Alles. Since then, it has established itself as one of the biggest inter-school sporting events of the island. This year’s event hosted around 1800 athletes from the 23 TISSL schools with over 106 track and field events for boys and girls of different age groups.

Lyceum Campus was the principal sponsor for ISAC 2023, along with co-sponsor Asriel Holdings, special sponsor Pearson and the snack partner Munchee. Baraka Naturals Joint Ease and Sampath Bank also came on board as sponsors. Lankadeepa Online, Daily Mirror Online, Mirror Sports, Daily FT and Sunday Times Online generously offered support as digital and web media sponsors, along with Dream Team Media as the official media partner for ISAC 2023.
