Sri Lanka batters Kusal Mendis and Oshada Fernando hit half centuries on day one of the two-day warm-up match against New Zealand XI at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval in Lincoln on Saturday. Mendis was particularly aggressive, scoring 95 off just 87 deliveries, hitting 16 boundaries and two sixes while Fernando retired after hitting a composed 78 off 111 balls. Dinesh Chandimal and Angelo Mathews also made 30s while captain Dimuth Karunaratne scored 21.

By stumps, New Zealand XI reached 141, losing only a wicket, with Jack Boyle unbeaten on 73 and Jokob Bhula on 37 not out. Fast bowler Lahiru Kumara accounted for the solitary wicket.
