Remembering Wariyapola Sumangala thera

Students of Wariyapola Sumangala College in Kandy did not forget to offer alms at the Sri Dalada Maligawa, in memory of Wariyapola Sumangala thera–in whose name their school was established.

Wariyapola Sumangala thera was one of the freedom fighters who tried to hide the Sacred Tooth Relic, to avoid it from falling into the hands of the British.

Wariyapola Sumangala College is one of the leading schools in Kandy.

Many of the school’s students were at the Wariyapola Sumangala thera commemoration meeting, which was held at the Sri Dalada Maligawa’s Maha Maluwa. The event was arranged by the Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela.
