Ananda College impressed at the Ritzbury All-Island Interschool Tennis 10s Tournament, which successfully concluded last weekend after a four-day long string of matches at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) courts in Greenpath, Colombo. Out of the three categories – Green, Red and Orange Ball – Ananda raked up wins in all segments as other schools managed to claim at least a placing in the Boys’ Division.

In the Green Ball segment Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala and S. Thomas’ College finished behind Ananda, who also topped the Red Ball and Orange Ball segments respectively.

St. Patrick’s College, Jaffna and Richmond College finished second and third best in the Red Ball segment while St. Peter’s College and Nalanda College were placed second and third in the Orange Ball segment.

In the Girls’ category, Visakha Vidyalaya claimed the Green Ball segment, followed by Musaeus College and Kalutara Balika Vidyalaya. Hindu Primary School, Jaffna topped the Red Ball segment as Kalutara Vidyalaya and Visakha Vidyalaya finished second and third. Ladies’ College claimed the Orange Ball segment, in which Visakha Vidyalaya and St. John’s Girls’ School, Panadura followed in at second and third.

“Tournaments such as these are essential to empower the new generation of tennis players while promoting the sport of tennis across the country. Having Ritzbury as a valuable sponsor will certainly gave the tournament an additional edge in terms of visibility, ultimately ending up in the sport gaining even more traction in Sri Lanka,” additionally, SLTA President Iqbal Bin Issack said.

This was the first time the kids had the opportunity to be back on court after two years, since the outbreak of the Covid-19 that spread in the island, forcing restrictions. Played in three age groups – Under-7, Under-8, and Under-10, over 1,300 players from 120 schools across the island took to the courts to display their colours and set forth on a voyage to foster and develop their future careers in professional tennis.

This is a proud moment for us as we hope to give this sport the extended reach that it needs in Sri Lanka.” Nilupul de Silva, the General Manager Marketing of CBL Foods International, commenting on Ritzbury’s contribution as the sponsor of the event, said.

In addition to tennis, Ritzbury is known as an active supporter of a wide range of sporting events in Sri Lanka including the Super 16 Junior Rugby Carnival, Ritzbury Sir John Tarbat Athletics Championship, Vidudaya Ritzbury Swimming Championship and the Ritzbury Junior National Squash Championship.

In addition to Ritzbury Sri Lanka, who came forward as the main sponsor of the event, Sunquick, Eva and Perera and Sons joined in as event sponsors along with 3G Sports coming in as the official ball sponsor.
