Defrost: Flying down from Norway

plan to grace the stage 10 times this year. One of their celebratory 10 appearances is the concert ‘Imagine’ which will be in aid of the work done by the Unity Mission Trust. The Trust works with youth from both the north and south of Sri Lanka bringing them together in a mission of reconciliation after the war.

The young Norwegian group, Defrost, under the direction of a leading choir director Prof. Thomas Caplin, are currently gearing up to dazzle the Sri Lankan audience with classical Norwegian tunes and even a few Sinhalese numbers.

Formed as an experimental effort by two choral directors to take part in the World Choir Games 2012, the choir, despite going through a few changes, has come to be known as Defrost given that none of them had the heart to stop singing together after the Choir Games. Learning so much more than just music, the youth are to fly down for the show in aid of the UMT.
Hoping to warm the hearts of the local audiences with their music, Defrost will also be performing some joint numbers with, Soul Sounds. “They met at the World Choir Games,” Sharanya Sekaram of the UMT tells the Sunday Times. The two choirs were keen on working together again.

On a different level, the coming together of the two choirs to perform joint and individual numbers is “exactly what UMT is about” she smiles. The exchange of choral cultures and appreciation of their differences is bound to leave the audience with a rather unique experience of musical co-existence.

Tickets priced at Rs. 3000, 2000 and 1000 and Rs. 500 for unreserved balcony seats are now available at the Lionel Wendt. ‘Imagine’ will be on Monday, July 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the Wendt.
