Tilakaratne fires hat trick for Sampath Bank

Left extreme Avinda Tilakaratne was in cracking form when he fired four goals including a hat-trick to give Sampath Bank a resounding 8-0 win over Galadari Hotel in their Mercantile Soccer fixture played at the City League ground recently. At half time the bankers led 3-0.

The game had hardly got under way, when Tilakaratne fired in the opener and 10 minutes later he made it 2-0. In the 20th minute, Tilakaratne completed his hat-trick to make it 3-0 in favour of Sampath Bank.

After the change of ends, Sampath Bank continued their scoring spree, when right inside V. Sriharan got his boot working to make it 4-0. In the 40th minute, right extreme N. Lokuge who got into the act to make it 5-0 and two minutes later, Tilakaratne worked past the Galadari defense to give the bankers their sixth goal. In the 44th minute, left inside Jalintha Perera gave Sampath Bank their seventh goal and in the 46th minute, left extreme N. Nanayakkara made the final score 8-0.

The game was refereed by M. Irshan, while the match co-ordinator was Piyal Perera and match commissioner was Anton Atapattu.

SriLankan Catering in 2-0 win over CBA
SriLankan Catering posted a 2-0 win over Ceylon Business Appliances in their MFA soccer match at the City League grounds recently. At short whistle the winners held a 1-0 lead.

In the fifth minute of play, centre forward M.R. Riyaz got SriLankan Catering moving with the opener. After the change of ends, left extreme D.M. Jayasinghe sealed the game for SriLankan Catering with the second goal. The game was controlled by Tharanga Kumara. The match co-ordinator was K.A.G. Gunasena and Anton Atapattu was the match commissioner. (BM)
