National Carrier on wing to assist Maldives Tourism

SriLankan Airlines has as part of a general strategy decided to promote Maldives in the wake of the recent political upheaval in the atoll nation. Sri Lanka's national carrier has been approached by the Maldives Tourism in a bid to support them in bringing down key persons as part of educational and journalist familiarization tours, the airline's Chief Marketing Officer G.T. Jayaseelan told the Business Times. Tourism officials from the Maldives met with SriLankan Airlines Chairman Nishantha Wickremesinghe recently when they attended the airline's marketing conference.

He noted that while carrying out this promotion for the Maldives they would also ensure that these individuals would also spend some time in Colombo as well. It was pointed out that in this regard, the itinerary of these familiarization tours would be organized accordingly.

Mr. Jayaseelan observed that in the aftermath of the recent political crisis in the Maldives the tourism industry was keen on highlighting that the country is "back in business." In this respect, the airline has agreed to provide the necessary assistance although plans are still being worked out by the tourism authorities in the Maldives. This promotion is also part of an ongoing effort to jointly promote the Maldives by Sri Lanka's national carrier.
