Wycherley Interact Club installation ceremony 2011/2012

The Interact Club is a service oriented Organization and its aim is "Service above Self". If one wants to make the world a better place, it has to begin with us - here and now. Giving to those who do not have, is the greatest joy to the heart. This is what the Interactors at Wycherley have set out as their goal.

The Annual Installation Ceremony of the new Interact Board took place at the Wycherley Internatioanl School Auditorium on Tuesday 6th September 2011. It marks the beginning of another chapter in the life of the Interact Club. The new Interact Board for this academic year consists of Keshni Sritharan (President) , Shenara Perera (Vice President), Zainab Ahamed (Secretary) and Vishmi Silva (Treasurer) along with the committee comprising of Sadiya Badurdeen, Akeila Weerasinghe, Pansilu Sanasgala, Amjed Khan, Dinesh Silva and Shamly Mackey. The Staff Advisor is Mrs. Shaleeka Abeygunasekera who will pilot the committee into many community oriented projects.

The New Board has many a vision in their mission. These include the Toast Master Programme, Interact Exchange Programme with Jaffna and India, School Walk, School Carnival, Bake sale, Inter Interact Club Basket ball Tournament, Talent Night and numerous awareness Seminars.

The Club needs funds for many of their community service projects, Hence, much thought and labour will be going into finding ways to generate the finances. Already with a "Car Wash and Bake Sale" the wheels have been set in motion to achieve the club's financial target. With many an Interact Club being dormant in the Island, Wycherley has set it's eyes in helping to put life into one of these Clubs.

The Installation Ceremony commenced with the lighting of the traditional Oil Lamp and then proceeded into the Interact Pledge and Invocation. The Principal, Mr. Kingsley Jayasinghe addressed the students and the Interactors both from Wycherley and other schools who were the guests for this occasion. The Chief Guest Mr. Ananda de Silva enlightened the Interactors on what they should focus on.

The Wycherley Interact Club is a young arm of the Rotary Club of Colombo West. His advice to the students was of great value to motivate them into action. Once the Installation Ceremony was over with the pinning of badges on the Office Bearers, there was a small programme by way of entertainment with a slide show on the new committee. A pop dance item by Nivedha and Thilani and a duet by Amjed and Sadiya followed. After the Vote of Thanks, there was a mingling of all students; who interacted with each other over refreshments.

These are the young ones who are going into the world to be the leaders of tomorrow. Being Interactors, definitely gives them the edge into that sphere of life - where they learn that life is with a smile not only for them, but also for the less fortunate.
