Lankan ‘A’ lose

Sri Lanka A suffered a massive 223-run defeat against Leicestershire in their first tour match played at Grace Road in Leicestershire yesterday. The tourists who were set to chase a huge 463 to win by the third day struggled to survive and were restricted to 239 by the home team.

Sri Lanka A followed their dismal first innings performance where they were shot out for 176 in reply to Leicestershire’s 341. Leicestershire after gaining a first innings advantage of 165 runs declared at 297 for 8 in their second essay.

Leicestershire 341 all out in 96.3 overs (James Taylor 168, Matthew Boyce 43, Tom New 29: Kosala Kulasekera 5/69, Shaminda Eranga 3/66, Seekuge Prasanna 2/57) and 297 for 8 wickets declared in 74 overs (Greg Smith 67, J. Taylor 41, Joshua Cobb 24, Wayne White 57, T. New 62: Sachithra Senanayake 2/51, S. Eranga 2/52, Tharanga Lakshitha 2/62)

Sri Lanka ‘A’ 176 all out in 49.4 overs (Malinda Warnapura 31, K. Kulasekera 41, S. Eranga 24: W. White 4/37, Jigar Naik 2/5, Alex Wyatt 2/37) and 239 all out in 72.2 overs (Lahiru Thirimanne 70, Bhanuka Rajapaksa 41, Sachithra Serasinghe 21, K. Kulasekera 24: J. Naik 4/61, A. Wyatt 2/20, W. White 2/24, Nadeem Malik 2/66)
