Much awaited movies in CEL circuit

A number of much awaited Sri Lankan cinematic creations are to be released on CEL circuit cinemas around the country including the Regal cinema Colombo.

Immediately after Asoka Handagama’s ‘Vidhu’ which is successfully running at present, ‘Pitasakwala Abhirasa’ (The Mystery of ET) directed by young filmmaker Nirmal Rajapaksais to be released. The debut film of young filmmaker Nirmal Rajapaksa, ‘PitasakwalaAbhirahasa’ talks about a young man who tries to make contact with the extraterrestrials and the repercussions faced by him and the entire humanity. It shows the valiant attempt by another group of youngsters to prevent the oncoming danger from the aliens.

Among the other films in the line are Lalith Pannipitiya’s ‘Sangili’ starring Dulani Anuradha, Saranga Dissasekera, Sanath Gunathilake, Veena Jayakody and Rebecca Nirmalee. The film marks the return of veteran actor Wimal Kumara De Costa’s to the silver screen. The film produced by K. G. Shirani Dias was picturised in breathtaking locales in and around Dambulla.

Young filmmaker Sathyajith Maitipe’s maiden film ‘Bora Diya Pokuna’ which has already won rave reviews at international film festivals is another film to be released in the year 2011. Scheduled to be released nearly ten years after its production, this much awaited film has already won several international awards. With experienced actors the cast includes Kaushalya Fernando, Dilani Abeywardena, Dhaminda de Silva, Irangani Serasinghe, Dharmasiri Bandaranayake, Veena Jayakody, Priyanka Samaraweera and Chandani Seneviratne.

Internationally awarded actress Nita Fernando’s co-production ‘Theja’ will be released during the year 2011. The film was selected to represent Sri Lanka at the International Cinema of the World category of the 41st International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa.

Theja stars Nita Fernando in the lead role along with actors Mahendra Perera, Irangani Serasinghe, Sujani Menaka, Anuruddhika Padukkage and Chamila Piries. It is directed by Nilantha Hapanveera and co-produced by Nita Fernando, Thilanka Perera and Mahil Perera on behalf of Mayura Cine Ru Productions.

Nalin Rajapaksha’s ‘Angara Dangara’ produced by actress Sachini Ayendra also will be released in CEL circuit cinemas. The story is of a young girl brought up in the city who had to go to a village with the transfer of her parents who were public servants. The main role is played by Sachini Ayendra while other roles are played by Jeevani Nirupa Perera, Nilmini Kottegoda, Susila Kottage, Kumara Thirimadura, Roshan Ranawana, Roger Senewirathna and Nadeeka Gunasekara.

Boodi Keerthisena’s ‘Maatha’ based on the island's 30 year old conflict will also be released this year. The lead roles played by Sangeetha Weeraratna and Saumya Liyanage it has some of Hollywood's professionals in the technical crew. ‘Matha’ the story of Yoga and Parvathi, based on and around the facts of the largest humanitarian rescue of the recent history of mankind.

Sanath Abeysekara’s direction ‘Mahindagamanaya’ starring Jeevan Kumarathunga, Dilhani Ashokamala Ekanayake, Roshan Ranawana, Joe Abeywickrama, Udari Warnakulasuriya, Oshini Dias, Roshan Pilapitiya, Bimal Jayakodi, Menaka Rajapaksha and Clitus Mendis in the stellar cast is to be released during the Vesak period of this year. It is produced by Daminda Upali Fernando.
