Etislat signs up as 2011 telecom partner for Gamer.lk

The Sri Lankan arm of UAE-based Etisalat announced that it would be partnering gaming website Gamer.lk for 2011. Additionally, the mobile operator will host "cyber-competitions" in Colombo, Kandy and Polonnaruwa at its "Hang-out" outlets, a free-of-charge venue for online access and gaming as well as other activities.

According to Etisalat's local chief Dumindra Ratnayaka; “Etisalat is thrilled to be a part of promoting a competitive gaming atmosphere in Sri Lanka and paving the way for prospective cyber athletes to learn, contend and enjoy.”

Further, he also noted: “We were the telecommunications partners for the Sri Lanka Cyber Games 2010 (SLGC '10) which was an absolute hit and we hope to partner Gamer.lk in enabling many more e-competitions in future.” This competition had 1,000 participants in its Colombo and Kandy legs, vying for the title of Sri Lanka's Cyber Champion 2010; it also featured the country's inaugural international exhibition match against the Maldives.
