Bringing back stability to the FCCISL: New President

Tissa Jayaweera who took reins as President of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL) at its annual general meeting on Monday, said he hoped to restore stability at the crisis-hit institution. The institution has been plagued by a staff crisis, disenchantment by regional chamber members and foreign donors.

Mr Jayaweera, who took over from Kosala Wickramanayake (outgoing President), has been a member of the FCCISL Council since 1996 and was its Senior Vice President. He told the Business Times he had three discussions with staff who are now ‘smiling’. “I have asked them to come up with ideas/suggestions and to ease differences amongst themselves. They will come up with suggestions in a document next month on how to move forward and improve relations with donors,” he said, adding that his priority is to bring stability to the organisation and restore good relations with donors, regional chambers and others.

The FCCISL’s regional membership fell to 50 members from 58 and Mr Jayaweera wants to restore the statesquo. “We need to look at certain programes for members according to our mission and vision and deliver the goods to the members.”

The new president is the present Chairman of International Chamber of Commerce Sri Lanka and President of the Sri Lanka Bangladesh Business Council. He is Chairman / CEO of the AIMS (Pvt) Ltd, Global Focus (Pvt) Ltd, TJ Associates, Alexander Polyclinic (Pvt) Ltd and also the Chairman of Chelsea Enamels (Pvt) Ltd

Kumar Mallimaratchi, Vice President of the FCCISL, was inducted the Senior Vice President at the AGM.
