Experienced actor Sriyantha Mendis and Duleeka Marapana bagged the Best Actor and the Best Actress awarda while ‘Arungal’ won the Best teledrama of the year at the 15th Sumathi Tele Awards ceremony held last weekend.
The Best director award was won by Dee Gee Somapala for his direction of ‘Ridee Ittankaraya’. Sriyantha won his award for the role he played in ‘Sadisi Tharanaya’ while Duleeka won her award for ‘Ridee Ittankaraya’.
Meanwhile Chandika Nanayakkara became the Popular Actor, Umayangana Wickremasinghe Popular Actress and the Most Popular teledrama ‘Itin Ita Passe’ were won by audience choice.
Filmmaker, writer and lyricist Professor Sunil Ariyaratne and actress Sriyani Amerasena won, Sumathi Lifetime awards. The Best Supporting actor was won by Richard Manamudali while Nadee Chandrasekara won the Best Supporting Actress award.
In addition a total of 61 awards were given away for different programmes telecast in different television channels and the budding talents which came across during the year 2009. |
