SAF Torch to be lit at Adam’s Peak

By Namal Pathirage

Adam’s Peak which is venerated by worshippers of all faiths is now chosen as the place where the SAF Torch would be ignited.

The official ceremony will be held in 21st January at 6.30 a.m. at the Temple premises, followed by another simple ceremony at the independentce Square the same evening.

This is in preparation for the eleventh edition of South Asian Federation Games which will be held in Dhaka, Bangladesh from 29 January to February seventh.

This will become a tradition SAF event in the future.

Once the torch is lit, there will be a few reception centres on its way to Combo.
The torch will be lit by former Sri Lankan athlete Sugath Tillekeratne and will be brought Colombo by a contingent of Army athletes.

Sri Lanka will be represented by 363 sportsmen/women at this meet.

Sri Lanka’s head of NOC Hemasiri Fernando speaking to the Sunday Times said that as Adam’s Peak was a place which is venerated by the followers of most faiths in the region the organisers took a decision to make this the tradition place where the SAF torch would be lit.

A sizable contingent of officials of the SAF organising committee are also expected to be present at this ceremony.
