St. Sylvester’s stalled

With some assistance from the rain, St.Aloysius defied all attempts of the Sylvestrians to score an outright win in their drawn tournament match at the Police Grounds, Kandy.

An exciting 140 runs (4x16, 6x5) from new boy Dileepa Gayeshan and fifties from skipper Nuwan Nilantha and Kanishka Herath propelled the home team to a massive 303 for 4.

The Aloysians lost two early wickets in their second innings, but an unbroken third wicket stand of 67 between Lahiru Weeraratne and W. Nanayakkara set the visitors up for a draw.

St. Aloysius 167 in 69. 5 overs (S. Shiroman 49,R. Sandakelum 26, M. Marlon 23, N. Devamin 21, D. Malalasena 5 for 52) and 89 for 2 in 35 overs (L. Weeraratne 50 n.o, W. Nanayakkara 21 n.o; N. Nilantha 1 for 15, R. Ekanayake 1 for 12).

St. Sylvester’s 303 for 4 dec in 57.4 overs (D. Gayeshan 140, M. Nanayakkara 29; K. Herath 52, N. Nilantha 54 n.o; W. Nanayakkara 2 for 105) - AK
