A look at the 18th Annual Blue and Gold General Knowledge Quiz 2008

The 18th Annual Blue and Gold General Knowledge Quiz 2008 was held last Friday at Royal College where. S. Thomas' College emerged champions, walking away with the Blue and Gold Challenge Trophy and a 100% Scholarship from the Synergy School of Marketing. Thurstan College came a close second.

The Quiz which was keenly contested by 43 schools consisted of five rounds with ten questions in each. The questions were based on current affairs, sports, science and technology, art, history, literature and of course general knowledge.

In an effort to ease the tension, each round was followed by a question on 'trivial trivia' open to all contestants, the correct answer being rewarded with an Encarta Encyclopedia DVD. A highly satisfied Poorna Molligoda (19), Chairman of the Royal College quiz club said, at the conclusion of the event, "It was fantastic. Even better than last year." He went on to say that none of it would have been possible if not for the hard work put in by the members and past members of the Royal College General Knowledge Club as well as their teachers-in-charge Mrs. K.L.M Kalupahana and Mrs. Disna Ranjani.
Shanindra De Alwis(19), from S. Thomas College commended Royal College on the questions included in the quiz saying "they were very balanced, not too difficult and not too easy." When asked how they prepared he said the team used the internet and various books. They each took a topic and prepared on it.

Speaking to the captain of the Thurstan College team Manesh Kalansooriya, he stated that "As the captain I am very proud of my team. It was a collective effort and all the guys worked very hard."

The Chief Guest of the event Mr. Mohamed Adamaly, Director Synergy was delighted with the enthusiasm and interest displayed by all the participants, and congratulated Royal College on a job well done.

The quiz was sponsored by The Synergy School of Marketing and Co-sponsored by ACCA and Sri Lanka Telecom. The Media Partner was The Sunday Times.
