As the war intensifies and the monsoon rages, living conditions for thousands of civilians in the Wanni may worsen, a United Nations Official warned yesterday.
The UN’s Colombo mission chief Gordon Weiss said the lack of basic needs and sanitation facilities were likely to cause havoc with a large number having little or no shelter.
He said the lack of sanitation facilities could lead to the out break of various diseases among other problems.
Consortium of Humanitarian Agencies Deputy Chief M.F.J. Hashim said government vehicles carrying aid for the people are likely to carry building materials to build shelters.
