‘Kakul Hathare Ilandarya’ makes 100th journey

The 100th show of veteran playwright R. R. Samarakoon's latest theatrical production ‘Kakul Hathare Ilandayia’ will go on boards at 3.30 and 6.30 pm on June 8 at Elphinstone Theater, Colombo.
A satirical comment on our society, the play is starred by Wijaya Nandasiri, Saman Hemarathne, Rathnashila Perera and Anusha Disanayake in the key roles. Senior lecturer Ariyarathna Kaluarachchi handles the choreography while stage setting is by lecturer Lionel Bentharage and the music has been composed by Shantha Peiries.

Ravindra Ariyarathna and Asoka Zoysa are in charge of the stage management. Sound operator is Chandana Nishantha Peiries. Starting with Ledak Nethi Ledek in 1968, Samarakoon wrote and produced a series of plays including 'Charita Dekak' in 1969 and 'Ahasin Wetunu Minissu' in 1971 which bagged the awards for the best original script and production at the Drama Festival organised by the Cultural Affairs Department. Some of this other famous plays include ‘Kelani Palama’, ‘Duwili’, ‘Idama’ and ‘Kaputu bo’. 'Kakul Hathare Illandariya' is presented by Jude Srimal.
