New ‘Trio’ in town

P imal, Jagath, Thilak are the newest ‘Trio’ of musicians from Moratuwa, who have got together to perform nothing but best.

Pimal Fernando o9n keyboards, Jagath Devapirya on guitar along with Thilak Perera joined hands to form ‘Trio’. All three musicians have been very well known in the music scene from the days of their youth, and also happened to be vibrant members of the Moratuwa Arts Forum.

Pimal Fernando organist/keyboardist, formerly played with Shakthi - ‘Super Pink and Purple’ and ‘Golden Chimes’ and also currently performing at Hotel Trans Asia and GOH as a solo pianist. In addition, he is also well known in Moratuwa music Circles as an organist and a pianist in open Churches.

Jagath Devapriya is also a hardened musician who began his career as a Hawaiian guitarist and graduated later on to a Spanish guitar. Flutist (flute), composer and singer formerly played with ‘Super Jets’, ‘New Tones’ and ‘Golden Chimes’. In his maiden CD a song title ‘Sithum Nildiye’ composed by Jagath himself became overnight hit and another two songs composed by Clarence Wijewardana too also became popular. Jagat is a SLBC ‘A’ grade artiste too.

Thilak Perera, a vocalist and a rhythm guitarist also has a colourful history as a musician has performed with many bands namely ‘Super Jets’, ‘Paragons’, ‘Diamonds’ ‘Salt + Pepper’ and ‘NiRo’ (Nihal's music accurate).

Thilak is the founder of the Moratuwa Arts Forum (MAF) and was responsible for streamlining a series that featured musical stars from Moratuwa title ‘STARS OF MORATUWA’ in the TV Times, in 1993, which became forerunner to the Moratuwa Arts Forum.

The Trio has performed their maiden gig in Moratuwa recently and wanted to bang in to concert and dance scene of the industry. They will be looking for work in the resort hotel circuit Down South.
