Sri Lanka Masters National Hockey Association (SLMNHA) will conduct open trials with intentions of picking teams for the upcoming Masters World Cup, which will be held this year. Sri Lanka will send two teams for the Masters Hockey World Cups, which will be held in different age groups at two venues – England and South Africa.

The last edition of Masters Hockey World Cup was held in Barcelona, Spain in 2018 and Sri Lanka Masters Men’s and Women’s teams took part and performed admirably.

The next editions of the World Cup for age groups of Over-35 and Over-40 will be played in England from August 10 to 22 while the world event for age groups of Over-45, 50, 55 and 60 will be held in South Africa from October 1 to 10.

“SLMNHA is the officially appointed body in Sri Lanka which happens to be the founding member affiliated with the World Masters Hockey. International Hockey Federation has given exclusive authority for World Masters Hockey to organise and take absolute control with Masters Hockey events globally,” stated Duncan Devendra, the Secretary of SLMNHA.

The SLMNHA, who will participate in the upcoming World Cup with the intention of reaching the top level, already conducted selection trials last Sunday (6) and the next session will be held on Saturday (19) at the Astro Turf in Torrington.

“We invite former national players, past players and current club players for the upcoming World Cup trials to select the participating teams. Selections will be conducted at the Astro Turf in Reid Avenue.

The men’s trials for age groups of above 35 and 40 will be held on February 6, from 3.00pm onwards. The men’s trials for age groups of above 45, 50, 55 and 60 will be held on February 19, next Saturday from 8.00am onwards. Further details could be obtained by contacting Ashok Peiris, the convener,” Devendra added.
