Anjalika, Thehan continue title winning spree
Anjalika Kurera and Thehan Wijemanne continued their title winning spree when they emerged champions in the Women’s and Men’s Open Singles respectively at the SSC Open Tennis Championship worked off at the SSC courts in Maitland Place. Kurera easily overcame Janali Manamperi in straight sets to claim the Women’s title, while Wijemanne also enjoyed an identical victory against Kiran Viaravanathan in the Men’s Singles. Kurera’s victory came in no time as she did not have much difficulty in beating Manamperi by 6/1, 6/3. But Wijemanne had a close shave in the first set against Vairavanathan before claiming it by 7/6. The second set was a total contrast for the eventual winner, who romped to victory by 6/1 to seal the deal.
It was Kurera’s third major singles title she won so far during this season. She had earlier bagged the Women’s Open titles at the recently concluded 106th Colombo Tennis Championship and 106th National Tennis Championshi. Wijemanne won his second major title yesterday having emerged the Men’s Open champion in the 106th Colombo Tennis Championship. The tournament continues today.
