A research team from the University of Kelaniya has introduced an easy-to-use eco-friendly helmet to protect against the COVID virus.

This was invented by the research team because of the huge amount of plastic waste disposed into the environment due to the current pandemic.

The helmet fits around the neck and covers the entire head and this can be used as an alternate solution to face masks.

The back of the helmet is made of recycled plastic and fibre and the front is transparent.

This device includes an exhaust fan that functions with a button. It has a lifespan of eight hours. The fan prevents the user from sweating and those who wear glasses will find it comfortable to use as fogging can be prevented.

The helmet also functions on the android platform and includes support for Bluetooth networks . So those who use this helmet can connect their mobile phones as well.

The helmet’s filters are made with particles that clean the incoming air, and the sponged lines filter the outlet air. According to the researchers the filters offer clean air under normal conditions.

Meanwhile, with an IR sensor included in the helmet a person with a high body temperature can be detected at a range of one metre.

The helmet contains an exhaust fan that would prevent the wearer from sweating and it’s more comfortable to use those who wear glasses as it avoids fogging. The helmet is available in three sizes and costs around Rs. 10,000.
