Gateway to offer International Drama and Sport qualifications along with ALs

Among the many choices of subjects and courses available at Advanced Level, Gateway College has included two new exciting courses in Drama and Sport, to provide further options for students. Having introduced Drama and Sport qualifications very successfully at International GCSE (OL) in all campuses, Gateway College wishes to extend these disciplines to AL as well, from this academic year. Over the years, LAMDA Medal Examinations (Gold, Silver and Bronze) in Acting and Pearson BTEC International Level 2 Extended Certificate in Sport have been offered to the 14-16 age group at Gateway to be completed along with International GCSEs. The success of the programmes have been as follows:

Founded in 1861, LAMDA is the oldest drama school in the UK.Building on the success of the OL students in LAMDA Level 3 Certificate in Performance: Acting,that is designed to enable Learners to develop a wide range of acting skills, Gateway wishes to introduce drama at AL through ATCL/LTCL qualifications offered by Trinity College London. Trinity is a leading international examination board and independent education charity that has been providing assessments around the world since 1877. Through drama, students learn to think and interpret imaginatively and creatively while learning to communicate ideas and develop as effective independent learners. Students are provided with the opportunity to develop their knowledge of different periods of drama and a variety of style and techniques used by dramatists, which will assist them in understanding dramatic texts used in literature.

Pearson Edexcel BTEC qualifications are internationally recognised vocational courses of-fered worldwide. Students will sharpen their organisational and managerial skills, record keeping skills and academic writing skills through the study of BTEC Sports while also acquir-ing the knowledge to plan and execute a sports event and expedition experiences.

Drama

Gateway College offers the LAMDA medal Examinations along with International GCSEs and Trinity College London Performing Diplomas along with ALs.

Drama at OL – LAMDA Medal Examinations in Acting – Grade 8 (Gold), Grade 7 (Silver) and Grade 6 (Bronze) are designed to develop skills necessary to communicate dramatic text to an audience. Learners who prepare themselves appropriately will develop interpretative skills, technical skills and theknowledge of the performance process. These critical skills will enhance their self-confidence to engage and contribute fully, whether at school, in further education, at work or in the community: In other words, to fulfill their potential. Further, these examinations encourage learners to develop a love of literature, poetry and drama and assist them to earn up to 30 UCAS points that would help them in getting into UK universities.

Drama at AL – Performing Diplomas of Trinity College London are designed to encourage candidates to be innovative, multi-skilled and reflective performers, developing and evidencing their skills in rehearsal and performance methodologies. Candidates demonstrate the principles and practice of vocal and physical skills, characterization and audience engagement through preparing and performing or presenting a range of material drawn from areas they may be studying, that they enjoy, or that present a new challenge. Learners have the opportunity to reach two levels on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF): Level 4 (ATCL) — equivalent standard to the first year of an undergraduate degree course and Level 6 (LTCL) — equivalent standard to the final year of an undergraduate degree course.

Sport

Gateway College offers the Pearson BTEC International Level 2 Extended Certificate in Sport along with International GCSEs and the Pearson BTEC International Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Sport along with ALs.

Sport at OL – Pearson BTEC International Level 2 Extended Certificate in Sport is a course that has a very practical approach that includes aspects such as fitness components in relation to performance excellence in sports, internal body systems, skills and techniques of team and individual sports, how sport performers can improve and reduce injury and sports management. The subject itself is assessed through a series of practical assessments which give the students a very current outlook to the subject matter while also giving them much needed practical knowledge and learning. Pearson Edexcel equals this course to two International GCSE subjects.

Sport at AL –Pearson BTEC International Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Sport is for students with an interest to elevate sports education in health and fitness, coaching, sports business and facilities management across all sports.Learners will study a range of mandatory and optional units such as Health, Wellbeing and Sport, Careers in the Sport and Active Leisure Industry and Influence of Technology in Sport and Physical Activity. This pathway is suitable for learners who either want to progress directly into industry or onto further or higher education.Pearson Edexcel equals this course to one and a half AL subjects.
