Norochcholai Police have commenced an investigation into an incident in which some people had broken into the Lakmuthu Tikiri Pre-School Development Centre and set fire to the books.

“The suspects had broken in from the front, forced open the cupboards and emptied them of their documents and books. They had then set fire,” the Police said.

About 35 children are studying at the Pre-School. On being informed, Puttalam District Parliamentarian Priyankara Jayaratnvisited the scene and promised to restore the children’s materials soon.

Teacher-in-charge Ranushika Lakmali said, “When I came this morning (14) , I was informed of this. It is a crime against these little children who are innocent. Their parents bought those learning materials through hard work. As such, we can’t imagine why they have done that.”
Shocked by this vandalism, parents and area residents have demanded an investigation be held soon into the incident.
