An Open House on how creativity and business merge giving rise to powerful creative careers

A unique way for after O/Ls and A/Ls students and young design enthusiasts to access new knowledge on the career market and tomorrow’s skill demand; with talks by designers, shuttle tours to Colombo’s design-meets-business spaces and creative career guidance. Free entry, limited seats, registrations now open.

With technology beginning to change the way we work and live, business is no longer what it used to be. With this major shift, the careers and skills demanded by the business world have dramatically changed to centre around human characteristics like creativity, ability to think outside the box and approach problem solving in radically new ways. This means that within the next ten years, the top talent to get hired by top businesses will be the creative ones whose ingenuity can work with the new realities that are fast becoming the norm. Understanding the dynamics of this new world is critical for any young student, school leaver or those considering to choose their higher education pathway. Responding to this need, Sri Lanka’s leading design catalyst and educator—AOD—has announced a one-of-a-kind open house curated on interestingworkshops which focus on how tech and creativity merge, and how the business world is beginning to bank on the ingenuity of creative brains to spark up big change. It’s a fantastic opportunity for students searching for their path after A/Ls and O/Ls, young professionals looking to elevate their careers to the next level with a new creative breakthrough, and parents looking to find more information on where tomorrow’s most secure and financially rewarding careers lie.

What can you expect from Design Futures’ studio sessions?

This unusual open house will host a series of studio sessions that zoom in on creative entrepreneurship, the role of design in technology and how thinking creative becomes the solution for social problems of tomorrow. With dedicated workshops in Fashion Design, Fashion Marketing, Interior Design, Visual Communication Design and Animation Design, students will be able to explore how creativity plays a huge role in the business world. The Fashion Design & Textile studio session will focus on how textile design comes to life with tech and how 3D software can be used in fashion design. The Visual Communication Design workshop gets inspiration from the past with Bauhaus Packaging Design, showing graphic design can be used in a variety of industries. Animation Design will delve into 3D object creation, lighting and rendering. The Fashion Marketing department will host a Branding workshop which will get the participant involved in a hands-on experience. Interior Design will deal with spaces of the future and how creativity can be used to make human experiences better.

Shuttle tours to Colombo’s design-meets-business spaces to show where creativity and retail come together

In the increasingly competitive retail world, what brands and businesses are beginning to swear by, is design. Products that are creative, unusual and aesthetically pleasing are always the ones that stand out in retail. This is the premise for the growing link between retail and design. Demonstrating this relationship that underpins the rules of tomorrow’s retail business through real life examples, Design Futures will host shuttle tours to Colombo’s modern retail spaces like Urban Island and real-life design studios where all the magic happens.
