Playhouse Kotte teachers Acting

Applications are now being called for joining the certificate in Acting Programme conducted by Lanka Children’s and Youth Theatre Foundation (LCYTF) popularly known as the Somalatha Subasinghe Play House.

The programme includes all round training such as acting on stage and for television and film, scriptwriting and analysis, directing, movement and vocal training. The duration of the programme is six months. Within this period, twenty-five in class sessions will be conducted on a weekly basis. There will be one to two sessions per week, mostly on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays (depending on the convenience of the participants).

The primary focus of the course is on acting, directing, scriptwriting and dance/musical theatre. Thus the participants will have the opportunity to learn free and structured movements, posture, body flexibility and physical balance, vocal training, pronunciation, voice projection, improvisation, plotting scenes, etc., along with the training in acting, directing and script analysis.

The programme is conducted by Kaushalya Fernando, who has obtained international level training in acting and actor training and won international awards and been acclaimed for cinema acting; and Prasanna Mahagamage, who has acquired national and international level experience in actor training. Acting for the camera training is conducted by Thisara Imbulana, an emerging young film director and scriptwriter.

In addition, other professional artistes from specialised fields will also conduct sessions. The programme is scheduled to commence in February 2019. Details of the programme and applications are available on www.playhousekotte.org or www.facebook.com/playhousekotte.org.
