Film importer, producer, theatre owner and businessman, Jagath Manjula Yapa has been appointed as the chairman of the National Film Corporation.

“My aim is to make the National Film Corporation, which is financially dependent onthe Treasury, to turn into a profit making institution,” Mr. Yapa told the media after assuming duties.

He said that this would be done while not reducing any benefits provided to the artistes involved in cinema.

He also said the NFC is drawing about Rs. 85 million a year from the Treasury for its maintenance and that he would not accept any allowance from the corporation.

Mr. Yapa who is also well-known businessman has businesses in several countries including Australia, Malaysia and India.
