Getting into the #shazeexperience

Popular player in Colombo’s bustling food scene Cafe Shaze is back after a six month hiatus from the spotlight, as they unveiled the #shazeexperience at their brand new location at No 56 Horton Place, Colombo 07.

Making the move from Thimbirigasyaya to Horton Place was all a part of their brand relaunch, according to CEO and Founder of Spartan Ventures Sharfaz Numan, the brains behind Cafe Shaze and Jam. The convenience of a central location is integral in their journey to reach as many people as possible, and create an environment that caters to everyone from corporates, to families, to casual catch ups between friends.

The #shazeexperience is all about combining their revamped menu with a setting suited to any occasion, including business meetings, birthday parties, and outdoor events.

The two-floor building hosts multiple intimate private spaces both indoor and outdoor – guests can choose from the cosy and relaxing Lounge or the Dining Room for an upscale, fine dining experience. The Backyard outside is perfect for an evening get-together and the Private Lounge with dedicated seating offers the privacy needed for business meetings or group discussions.

All that its customers loved about Cafe Shaze has been further developed and made more accessible. This is quite evident throughout their new menu which also includes their popular mocktails and the signature Jam Rolled Ice Cream.

Their fusion cuisine is a point of pride for Cafe Shaze, and aims to combine their love for innovation with their goal to be a trendsetter on an international level – featuring curated combinations of a number of cuisines including Indian, Thai, Italian and Western with a Sri Lankan twist.

Guests at the launch were treated to miniature versions of their menu including mini bread bowls filled with a thick Cream of Broccoli soup, a ‘Healthy Bean’ salad served in a particularly crispy shell, succulent Beef Kebabs, and their signature Beef Stroganoff served on firm pol roti discs.

The dessert selection included standard favourites like chocolate eclairs, chocolate mousse cake and a blueberry cheesecake that was said to have been put through rigorous testing before it was considered creamy enough.

Their drinks selection is just as expansive as the food menu, including a variety of hot and cold coffees and teas, milkshakes, smoothies and juices. The smooth, expertly-prepared latte offered to us at the end of the evening stood out as the clear highlight of the experience.

A particular point of interest is the ‘Streets’ dinner options available after 6pm that introduce an inventive selection of fusion kottu like Pol Roti Kottu, Pasta Kottu and Roast Pan Kottu – defining the fun, original style that Café Shaze is all about. Overall the new location, a revamped menu, and a passion for reinvention is making sure that Cafe Shaze is back in business and its certainly worth a visit.
