In the shade of Sinharaja

The following images are a few raw cuts captured on a trek at our biggest primary tropical rain forest, Sinharaja.  With endemic species of fauna and flora, one sometimes forgets the magnitude of this amazing legacy of mother nature, spread across more than 11000 hectares of land.

Profuse with thousands of little streams surrounded by rivers, and its tropical abundance, the forest is a blessing for the villagers living in its borders, for many of whom it provides a primary source of livelihood.

Named a UNESCO world heritage site in 1988 the moment you walk into the shade of its lush cover, the cool green darkness makes you feel as if you are within the womb of your own home.

Not an illusory feeling because this rain forest was once the home of our oldest ancestors.
