SL-Finland sign MoU to upgrade Vocational Education

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to upgrade the local Vocational Education Sector (VES) was among 3 bilateral agreements signed between the Governments of Sri Lanka (GoSL) and Finland this week, to strengthen ties with the greenest country in the world, when it comes to using power sources.

The signing of the agreements was the highlight of the visit by the Finnish Business delegation headed by its Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs & Employment, Petri Peltonen, which concluded its 3-day visit to Sri Lanka on Wednesday. Education Ministry Secretary Sunil Hettiarachchi who signed on behalf of the GoSL, noted the similarities between the two countries in the Education sector, where free Education is provided from Montessori to University.

He added that with Finland’s bilateral support to develop the VES in the country, through this agreement, future generations would get adequate training to prepare them for the new evolving job markets. Noting that Finland’s strengths are based on the high level of Education, well functioning Infrastructure, highly skilled use of Information and environment friendly sustainable Technologies, Mr Peltonen said the Finnish government is eager to increase collaboration in Innovations, Trade and Investments between the two countries. “New partners and new business technologies are the reason we are here in Sri Lanka this week.”

Mr Peltonen hoped that both countries have much to offer to each other, as Finland follows the development of Sri Lanka with great interest, as an important emerging market hub in the Indian Ocean Region. The other 2 MoUs were related to cooperation in the areas of Digitalization and the Health sector.

Ambassador of Finland to Sri Lanka Harri Kämäräinen who hosted the event, said that Finnish companies understand thoroughly, how to combine latest digital technologies with sustainability and safety, where their top of the class expertise in energy and deep understanding of the digital world, can benefit Sri Lanka.
