Jaffna Uni.’s maiden Engineering Graduates pass out
View(s):Though the Engineering Faculty of the University of Jaffna (UoJ had its initiation 3 decades ago, by the late Prof A.Thurairajah, the 1st batch of 33 Graduates from the UoJ Engineering Faculty passed out with Distinction, and was conferred their Degrees at its annual Convocation ceremony held last week at the Kailasapathy auditorium, Jaffna.
After the end of the conflict, efforts were taken by civil society and academia to revive the earlier plan to construct the Faculty. Presently, the campus is located in Ariviyalnagar, approximately 7 km south of Kilinochchi.
The University Grants Commission and the Higher Education Ministry subsequently endorsed the proposal to establish the Faculty of Engineering, adjoining the Faculty of Agriculture, in Kilinochchi, with the following Departments, namely Dept of Civil Engineering, Dept of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Dept of Computer Engineering and Dept of Inter-Disciplinary Studies.
