Thomians and Vazians share title
View(s):St. Thomas’ College Matale and St. Joseph Vaz College Wennappuwa were declared joint champions at the 4th Thomians 7s Invitation Schools Hockey Tournament conducted by Matale Old Thomians Hockey Association and held at the Edward Park in Matale.
The hockey crazy crowd of Matale were disappointed as the finals between home team St. Thomas’ and Joseph Vaz was called off due to adverse weather and bad ground conditions. Then the organising committee decided to declare two teams as join champions.

St. Aloysius College Galle won the third place. S.P.H. Bandara of St. Thomas’ Matale was adjudged the Player of the Tournament and Amatha de Silva of St. Joseph Vaz, Wennappuwa carried away the Best Goalkeeper’s award. Piyumantha Gunarathne of St. Thomas’ Matale won the Up and Coming Player’s award.
Major General Shavendra Silva graced the presentation ceremony as chief guest along with Vasantha Kumara, the C.E.O. and General Manager of Peoples’ Bank, B.S.K. Jayasinghe General Manager Sales of Sri Lanka Telecom, Alfred Madugalla, the Managing Director Diana Biscuit Company, Deputy Vice Chancellor NSBM Green University Town Chaminda Rathnayake and St. Thomas’ College Matale Principal K.A.J. Kulasooriya.
