Old Thomians down Saracens to win CDCA Div III C’ship

Old Thomians Cricket Club, mostly represented by schoolboy cricketers of S. Thomas’ College and its fresh former players, beat Saracens Sports Club, to clinch the Colombo District Cricket Association (CDCA) Division III Championship. Old Thomians recorded a comfortable 82-run win to secure the win of the final which was played at the SSC ground last Saturday.

Electing to bowl first, Saracens restricted Old Thomians for 221-9 in 50 overs but were bowled out for 139 runs with six overs remaining. For Old Thomians, Chenutha Wickramasinghe top scored with an unbeaten 66 followed by a useful knock of 64 by Helakamal Nanayakkara, who returned to capture two scalps.

Chenutha Wickramasinghe earned the award for the Best Batsman, while Helakamal Nanayakkara won the Man-of-the-Final award. The award for the Best Bowler went to Chanaka Mendis of Saracens, who captured three wickets.
