Study guidelines thoroughly, apply online: UGC urges university entrants

The University Grants Commission (UGC) urges students qualified to enter universities, to apply online, after studying the guidelines thoroughly.
Applications for university entrance are accepted till Jan.26 and students can apply online by logging onto the UGC’s website www.ugc.ac.lk. They can also apply by purchasing the application and handbook from the UGC office in Colombo and authorized bookshops islandwide.

This year, 136,421 students from 206,630 school candidates qualified to enter State universities. Of the 253,330 private candidates, 163,104 qualified to enter into State universities.

Accordingly, 66.02% have qualified, an increase from 2016 A/L’s of 62.17%. Of those who qualified for university admission, 18,546 students are from the Bio stream, 14,884 from Physics, 36,555 from Commerce, 55,958 Arts, 9,206 Technology streams and another 1,272 from other subjects.
