Sirimavo Bandaranaike BV emerge Cager champs

Sirimavo Bandaranaike Balika Vidyalaya, Colombo emerged champions in the ‘B’ Division of the Under-17 Inter-Schools Basketball Tournament organised by the Sri Lanka Schools Basketball Association, concluded at the Gateway International School Courts recently.
Sirimavo Balika Vidyalaya scored a 53-22 win over Colombo International School to win the Under-17 title. Liyara Malmi Hettiarachchi of Sirimavo had a big hand in this victory to be the top scorer with 31 points while Chamodya Kavindi scored second best with 16 points. Laya Hamsa was outstanding for the losers scoring 12 points.
In the play off for the 3rd place Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda scored a close 47-33 win over Gateway International School, Colombo.
Liyara Malmi Hettiarachchi and Vinuli Athukorala of Sirimavo Balika Vidyalaya were adjudged the Most Valuable Player of the Finals and Best Defensive Player awards respectively while Laya Hamsa from Colombo International School won the award for the Best Attacking Player of the Tournament. – LR
