Another Tusker expected from Myanmar, but not in time for Esala Perahera

The tusker gifted by Myanmar to President Maithripala Sirisena would be used mostly during the Kandy Esala Perahera, Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela said.

However, the tusker Indiraja would only be shipped from Myanmar in August, so will not be used in this year’s Perahera.

Myanmar gifted the tusker on a request made by the Diyawadana Nilame two years ago. The Dalada Maligawa has two tuskers from Myanmar, Burumaraja and Myanmar Raja. These two tuskers carry the Karanduwa in the Perahera.

Around 90 elephants are scheduled to participate in this year’s Perahera and 45 would be in the Sri Dalada Maligawa section of the Perahera.
The first Kumbal Perahera was held yesterday, and took a longer route for more people to view.
