Seminar on “Golf in Theory”

Systematic Approach to learning Golf
View(s):

It cannot be stressed more, of the connection between Golf and Geometry. If one can take down notes from a professional Instructor, at a learning session, that’s all you need for life. But the problem here is that, in a driving range or, in a hitting station environment, there is no proper way to hold a club, writing pad and a pen at the same time. Nor will a professional Golf instructor tell you, “go home and write down all that you learned today”. This is why it takes a long time to master the game but, not that long, if you’re smart enough to break down theory and practice. Once you have studied “Golf in Theory” “You’re Your Master”, we guarantee what we say.

The two-day seminar is designed for Touring Pros, Serious Amateurs, Parents of junior players, School Teachers (as an extracurricular), as well the rest of Golfers. Explaining all aspects of play, based upon the mathematics and mechanics of Golf. A guide to the ‘How’ and ‘Why’ of Golf;

Sri Lanka and Golf Education- Sri Lanka is now on the verge of opening access to a few more Golf Courses around the island. We need to promote the game and offer a variety of Golf Courses to all Lankans. On the same token, we also need to offer Golf education/training to anyone who may choose to get into the game. These two must go “hand in glove”. Learning Golf and the importance of a proper Golf swing is by learning from a professional from Day 1. This is how it is done in any other recognised, top Golf playing country. Once you have mastered the wrong grip and swing, you have only mastered the art of misery and will never get it right.

In a Golf swing, “The Club face must be perfectly square at the moment of truth”, this is only achieved by using “checkpoints” that must be learned from a Teaching Professional, and later used to your advantage. It must also be understood that, all human beings are not of the same physique. Proper swing techniques and biomechanics are key in teaching Golf. Therefore, you can’t ask all students to copy “Tour Professionals”, to develop a better game. In addition, we have most Golfers starting to play at age 25, and in some cases, at 35, which makes learning even harder.

Methods developed by the American based Professional Golf Teachers & Coaches of America, have distinct variations. Basically, it’s important to understand the age group and gender, for better custom instructions for each student. We also use a system based on “drills”, to inculcate swing thoughts and assemble the engine (body) together, for that Golf swing you’ve always wanted.

Golf and Olympics – An Olympic sport such as Golf, since 2016, should be accessible to all demographics; you never know where the talent comes from, The Olympics are a golden opportunity to introduce Golf to people worldwide. While we may see an initial spike in interest from the games in Rio de Janeiro, the full impact may not be seen globally, until the next generation enters the game, after being inspired to play Golf from watching the top men and women players compete on the Olympic stage. Recognising the significance of the potential Olympic effect on the game, we must now lay the foundation for all Sri Lankans, without discrimination, and just like in Cricket, we may surprise ourselves.

The Teaching Professional of this seminar has already certified 4 Level 2 Golf Coaches under a Sri Lanka Golf Union programme, to take Golf to schools. He has also worked with the Toronto District School Board, with the assistance of the Royal Canadian Golf Association (now Golf Canada) and Wilson Sports.

First time in Sri Lanka, conducted by a Class ‘A’ Professional, from Professional Golf Teachers and Coaches of America.
