Young Lawyers beat Colombo Masters by 19 runs
View(s):A fine all-round performance by Young Lawyer Udaya Basnayake helped Young Lawyers World Cup Squad to register a close 19-runs victory over the Colombo Masters Cricket Association 50+, in their Cricket match played at the Rifle Green last Saturday.
Winning the toss and electing to bat, the Young Sri Lankan Lawyers, helped by a fine, unbeaten top score of 52 by Udaya Basnayake, totalled 201 off 33.4 overs. Colombo Masters’ W. Nandana 2/30 and Hiran Fernando 2/34, were the pick of the bowlers.
Colombo Masters in their reply were sitting pretty at one stage with the scoreboard reading a rapid 55 runs off 10 overs. With the exit of Hiran Fernando for 41 and the stylish Upul Sumathipala from Galle in the 12th over, saw the Masters lose their way and folding up for 189 for 9 wickets in their alloted 35 overs. Once again Basnayake, this time with the ball, rattled the Masters’ batting line to claim 4 for 55 in 77 overs.  – LR
