In spite of the promised rains overnight the weather gods were kind and all the matches were played without any hiccup in the schools under 19 tournament matches ended yesterday.

At Wattala, Dharmaraja ended with a first inning win.  In reply to Dharmaraja’s score of 283, Antonians replied with 253 all out. Dharmaraja’s Gihan Vitharana finished with impressive figures of 7 for 90.

St Joseph’s dominated proceedings in the match played at Darley Road. St Joseph’s taking first lease of the wicket declared at 255 for 7 with Nipun Sumanasinghe’s top scoring with 81. Mahinda were restricted to a score of 216.

An eight wicket haul by pacie Ruchira Dangalla was in vain as it could prevent St Benedict’s from securing a first inning win against Wesley at Campbell Park. St Benedict’s in reply to Wesley’s 154 managed to make 191.

President’s College Kotte recorded a well deserved first inning win over De Mazenod in the match concluded at Kandana.

Half tons by Kaveesh Kumara and  Dinuka Dilshan helped Dharmasoka MV record an easy first inning win against Zahira in the match played at Maradana.

An unbeaten double ton by Tharusha Fernando was the highlight of the drawn match between St Sebastian’s and DSS played at Moratuwa.

In another match which began after the lunch break saw St Anne’s secure a first inning win against Royal Panadura at Kurunegala while Lumbini MV have already taken a first inning lead over St Servatius Matara at the end of the first day’s played at the Uyanwatta Stadium in Matara.

By Aubrey Kuruppu

Asgiriya turners do make for good, interesting cricket. The spinners of both Trinity and St. Peter have called the shots. But the proceedings were absorbing and chockfull of interest.

On Friday, skipper Lakshina Rodrigo made an attacking 91. He was involved in a second wicket stand of 160 with Santush Gunatilleke (65 with 9 fours).

Sanogeeth sparkled briefly, but Trinity found themselves on 142 for 9. The last pair of Thiyagaraja Bhanugoban and Nethumal added 42, in mounting excitement and tension. 184 was the reply and Trinity fell short by 35.

The Peterites struggled to 115 and set a victory target of 151 to the home team in a mere nine overs. Shalith Fernando stood out among the runs with a sterling 54.

Trinity was 7 for 2 when the showers came.

St. Peter’s 219 (Lakshina Rodrigo 91, Santush Gunatilleke 65, Pabasara Herath 18, Vimukthi Nethumal 6 for 85, Thisani Dilshan 2 for 13) and 115 (Shalith Fernando 54, Manelka de Silva 11, S. Sanogeeth 5 for 33, T. Dilshan 2 for 21).
