Trinity welcomes rejected 6-year-old with exemplary generosity

The six-year-old boy who was refused admission to a rural school in Kuliyapitiya, because of a rumour that his father had died of AIDS, was subsequently admitted to Trinity College Kandy, which agreed to provide him free education including books and uniform up to his Advanced Levels or, until such time he decides to leave school, said Education Ministry Secretary W.M. Bandusena
He also said that arrangements are being made to relocate the mother close to the school in Kandy. She will be granted a monthly allowance for living expenses.

The mother, Chandani de Souza, when contacted, said she is overjoyed that her son has got a place in one of the best school in Sri Lanka. She expressed her willingness to be relocated in Kandy. “For my son’s sake I will do this,” she said.
