Zayn Malik who broke ranks and quit One Direction last year has released his debut solo single ‘Pillowtalk’ on Friday, 29th January. Malik who has a recording deal with RCA is also expected to release his debut album in March. James “Malay” Ho is producer of the hitherto untitled album and single ‘Pillowtalk’.

The electronic and R& B duo Snakehips have scored their debut top 10 hit on home ground with ‘All My Friends’. The duo has been around since 2012, but the current release debuted eight weeks ago at 98 before snaking around to its current position of 8.

The US vocalist Tinashe performs vocals on ‘All My Friends’ with Chance adding the rap segment. Another feature of the song is the ear friendly anthem like chorus.

The pop duel between Canadian musicians Justin Bieber’s song ‘Love Yourself’ and Shawn Mendes’ ‘Stitches’ for the No: 1 position on the UK singles chart, has now been won by Mendes.

His song ‘Stitches’ eclipsed Bieber’s long running chart topper by a lead of 1500. The battle lasted two weeks. ‘Stitches’ by Mendes is a pop grower, as it made a slow and steady climb up the chart.

It took 17 weeks since it debuted at No: 79 to reach the chart summit. Shawn Mendes is a 17 year singer and songwriter from Toronto, Ontario who first came to public attention in 2013.

Although he is a song writer his debut international hit ‘Stitches’ is written jointly by Danny Parker, Teddy Geiger and Daniel Kyriakides. Geiger and Parker also produced the song along with Daylight. Mendes had released two songs earlier in the UK, but it is his third release which gelled with the UK public.

‘Stitches’ is taken from his debut album ‘Handwritten’. In his native Canada, ‘Stitches’ has only proceeded as far as No: 10 but has topped the chart in Germany and the UK.

Major Lazer’s ‘Light It Up’ pushed it way on to the UK top at 10 from 13. The dancehall/ EDM track features the vocals of Jamaica singer Nyla.

‘Light It Up’ is taken from Major Lazer’s album ‘Pence Is The Nation’ and is a follow up to Anglo American group’s hit song ‘Lean On’ which featured DJ Snake and MØ which peaked at 2 last year. Major Lazer comprises Diplo, Jillonaire and Walshy Fire.

Adele’s global smash hit ‘Hello’ has passed 1 billion views on YouTube and has become the fastest video to do so in 87 days. The song has over taken Pys’s ‘Gangnam Style’ which hit 1billion views in 187 days.

Iggy Azalea and her record label are at odds with each other over the release of her new song ‘Azillion’. Virgin Records did not Azalea to make a video for the song as they felt it was not commercially appealing. The Australian rapper has suggested Virgin is angry at her for leaking the song free online.

Ronan Keating the one time leader of Boyzone has urged One Direction not take a very long hiatus as there is always the possibility another group will come along and replace them. Such a situation could cause bitterness to fester between them.
