“Premaya Nam” in competition at Bengaluru Film Festival

“Premaya Nam” (Dirty, Yellow, Darkness), the directorial debut by brothers Kalpana Ariyawansa and Vindana Ariyawansa is competing in the Asian Competition section at the 8th Bangaluru International Film Festival from January 28 to February 4.

“Premaya Nam” is the only Sri Lankan film selected to feature in the competition at the BIFF this year. So far “Premaya Nam” has participated in seven International film festivals including Beijing International Film Festival, Shanghai International Film Festival, International Film Festival of India, Goa and International Film Festival of Kerala.

Based on a true story, “Premaya Nam” starring Shyam Fernando, Samanalee Fonseka,Suranga Ranawaka and Dr. Sathis Wijemanne, features an ensemble of cast frequentlyseen on contemporary theatre, television and cinema. Cinematographer JaanShenberger acted as the director of photography while Tapas Nayak and Andrew ScottDuncan did the sound design.

The original score was composed by Dr. RohanaWeerasinghe and the theme song written by Prof. Sunil Ariyaratne. Daminda D.Madawala contributed as the assistant director while internationally acclaimedfilmmaker Prasanna Vithanage acted as the executive producer.

Consultant psychiatrist Dr. Kapila Ranasinghe was the advisory consultant for the movie. Brothers Kalpana andVindana Ariyawansa wrote and directed “Premaya Nam” and is being produced by Kalpana Ariyawansa, Prem Dissanayake, Athula Mahawalage and Sujeewa Wijesinghe.
