Rain hampered three Under-19 Schools Cricket Tournament games with two of them ending in tame draws and one, with an obvious result, too being forced to be call off yesterday.

Rain came in S. Thomas’ way, preventing a certain win

Despite rain hampering proceedings, S. Thomas’ College were well on course of registering an outright win against Mahinda College at Mt. Lavinia but rain emerged the eventual winner.

Put into bat, the Thomians declared their first innings at 231-7 with Sachitha Jayathilake and Dilendra Gunathilake scoring half centuries, and had Mahinda batting in tatters after forcing the visitors to follow on.

Mahinda resumed from their overnight score of 62-4 only to be bowled out for a meager total of 87 and were struggling at 85-3 before rain put a complete stop to the drama.

Mahinda needed 59 runs to salvage from an innings defeat when play ended. The only two Mahinda batsmen to resist the collective bowling attack of S. Thomas’ were Hiranjith Dulsara and Hansaka Welihinda, while others failed to rise to the occasion.
